History / Profile of Russian Blue Cat?
The Russian blue cat is not a representative of the natural
breed. In other words, these pets appeared on the globe as a result of natural
selection and natural interbreeding.
Now it is impossible to say exactly when these cats were
first formed into a separate species, it is impossible to trace the pedigree to
a specific individual, which would be possible if the breed was bred
artificially. However, most connoisseurs agree that Russian blue cats are very
ancient cats.
Initially, when cat lovers paid attention to these animals
and began to distinguish them into a separate breed, they were called archangel
cats. Where does the name come from? The fact is that they came from the islands
of the Archangel, at least according to the "legend". For the first
time, the cat was shown in 1875 in England, earning a lot of positive reviews.
A British cat lover named Mrs. Carew-Cox began importing
cats in 1890, breeding and displaying them at the turn of the 19th and 20th
centuries. Its description of the breed by external characteristics is almost
identical to what we can see today.
During the Second World War, these cats were almost
completely destroyed on the territory of the Soviet Union, and it took a lot of
effort and many years to restore the population. To this end, cat lovers from
Britain and Scandinavia crossed the Russian blue cat with Siamese and British
blue.
It is worth noting that mating with Siamese cats had an
impact on the texture of the coat. Although, subsequently, this influence was
eliminated and the texture of the coat, like the rest of the appearance,
acquired a look as close as possible to the original. In the United States, the
Russian blue cat appeared around 1900, However, only after the end of the
Second World War, namely in 1947, breeders paid serious attention to this
breed.

Description
The Russian blue cat is kind and affectionate but is endowed
with high intelligence, which sometimes makes its behavior quite peculiar. She
can observe what is happening around her, draw her own conclusions. He has
curiosity, gets along well with children. On the other hand, these cats do not
really like it when children squeeze them too much, situationally they can show a
short temper, but more often just leave.
They have an elegant, lean physique, but do not look thin.
On the contrary, if you maintain the right balance of nutrition, and your cat
does not gain excess weight, it will look strong and sturdy. The body and legs
are elongated but symmetrical, the muzzle is thin. The average life expectancy
is 15-17 years. A bright distinguishing feature is green eyes. If the pet has
all the external characteristics but does not have green eyes, then it is not
a Russian blue cat.
Personality
If you love intelligence, ingenuity combined with kindness, and playfulness in pets - this cat is perfect for you. Of course, in the event
that you also like the external characteristic features.
This breed of cat has some pronounced personality traits. In
particular, he loves attention, but - the attention of his family members, to
whom the pet gives his love and affection. Without receiving a response from
family members, the cat can experience this quite painfully.
If we talk about strangers, then here the animal decides on
its own. Sometimes a cat can, so to speak, come to meet, or maybe simply ignore
a new company.
Another distinctive feature is the love of hunting. If you
don't have the opportunity to provide her with this kind of activity, at least
you can take the time to play with your pet. On the other hand, these cats have
a great time alone with themselves and even need it, just not in the prolonged
absence of their family. The Russian blue cat gets along well with other pets
and dogs if they do not show aggression.
Common diseases
In general, the Russian blue cat is quite resistant to
health disorders, but here are a few diseases to which there is a
predisposition:
Polycystic kidney disease. It is inherited, the appearance
of symptoms is possible even at an early age. A proper, balanced diet and clean
water can significantly reduce the risks.
Feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) is a disease that
affects the bladder and urethra. Cats with FLUTD experience pain when
urinating, and blood may be visible in the urine. The frequency of urges also
increases, and the pet can urinate throughout the house.
Progressive retinal atrophy refers to eye diseases, night
vision begins to suffer first, then day vision.
Overeating - all cats are more or less inclined to enjoy
food, but the Russian blue cat stands out from the rest. She needs control over
the amount of food taken.
How to take care of Russian Blue Cat
This breed does not require any special care, including the
coat, as it is quite short. To maintain the beauty and freshness of the fur
cut, weekly brushing is enough.
Brushing your teeth should ideally be done every day,
brushing your ears and eyes at least a few times a week, or as needed. Also, do
not forget to trim the claws of your pet, especially if you live not in a
private house, but in a city apartment, and the cat is deprived of the
possibility of constant walks on the street in the natural environment.
