Ragdoll
History of ragdoll cat
Ragdoll is a very beautiful breed of cat, which, also, has
an unusual history of appearance. To begin with, the founders - the cat Blackie
and the cat Josephine, were not registered representatives of any breed with a
good pedigree, just the opposite.
Blackie's cat looked a lot like a black Persian, and
Josephine was a white longhair. As you've probably guessed, Blackie's cat was
black, hence his name. Josephine's owner took Blackie the cat from her neighbor
for mating, however, the kittens were born with a very bad character.
The situation changed radically after Josephine was hit by a
car, and underwent treatment in an animal clinic. The offspring that the cat
gave after the accident and treatment was radically different from the previous
one - the character of the kittens became very cute and compliant. Such a
change prompted the owner of the cat Ann Baker to breed a new breed, which
would be distinguished not only by excellent external characteristics but also
by a wonderful personality.
Subsequently, Ann took other Persian cats for crossbreeding,
and after a while she registered ragdoll with the Ragdoll Cat Fanciers
Association, thus creating a new breed. An important point - everyone who
wanted to have such a cat had to get a franchise by paying Anne Baker a certain
amount. At least if a person wanted to register a kitten of the Ragdoll breed.
As you understand, all over the world there were many people
who were not satisfied with this situation at all, and therefore they ignored
franchising, which caused a lot of litigation. Later, a certain group of fans
of the breed even created their own association. Over time, the franchise has
sunk into oblivion - it simply has not been extended, and now anyone can become
the owner of a ragdoll cat.
In 1981, two breeders from the UK became interested in this
breed and transported several individuals to their homeland. Cats aroused
considerable interest among amateurs, and in 1987 the Ragdoll Breed Club was
created. Official recognition by cat Fancy occurred in 1990.
In the development of the breed, the influence is clearly
visible in Persian and Burmese cats.

Ragdoll cats are kind, loyal, and very intelligent creatures
that get along well in a family of all sizes. They are happy to get involved in
games and entertainment, maintaining playfulness in adulthood.
Females are noticeably smaller than males, this breed is
distinguished by a large physique and the correct shape of the muzzle. The ears
are medium-sized, the neck is short, the tail is long and fluffy, the legs are
also long and strong. With all this, Ragdoll retains the elegance of the lines and does not look heavy. There are a lot of color options, with various
inclusions and shades. The average life expectancy is 15 years.
what is the personality of the ragdoll cat?
What is special about Ragdoll cats?
Ragdoll the cat has a very kind and peaceful character.
These cute creatures are famous for their affectionate and calm nature, thanks
to which they quickly become an ideal companion and pet for each of the family
members. They get along with everyone and get inner satisfaction from being in
a family setting.
At the same time, cats are quite playful, inquisitive, have
a pronounced intellect, and get along very well with children. In fact, it can
be said that this is one of the best breeds for living in a family and
friendship with children, with the exception of people with allergies to pet
hair. After all, this is a semi-long-haired breed, which imposes some
restrictions.
In addition, ragdoll cats are good at perceiving other pets,
and dogs are no exception. Unless the dog behaves aggressively and unfriendly.
Ragdoll has an average level of activity that may increase
or decrease, depending on the environmental conditions and the host's approach
to the matter. They can learn to come to the call, are very obedient, and are
not very silent, especially when it comes to food. Ragdoll is able to truly
become attached to their family members.
what are the common diseases in ragdoll cats?
Representatives of both mixed and pure ragdoll breeds are
prone to several serious diseases, and, in some cases, the question concerns
genetics. So:
- hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a form of cardiovascular disease that is inherited by Ragdoll.
- autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease - associated with DNA.
- increased risk of calcium oxalate stones in the bladder.
- predisposition to FIP (infectious peritonitis of cats).
How to take care of a ragdoll cat?
A cat of the Ragdoll breed needs careful care of its coat.
In this matter, everything depends on the owner, since the breed itself is very
beautiful, and this beauty must be constantly maintained. The cat needs
constant combing of the coat, especially during the molting period.
Also note that your upholstered furniture will accumulate
hair, which means that you will have to monitor not only the cat but also the
cleanliness of chairs and sofas. The undercoat is relatively small, which
somewhat reduces the amount of hair that falls out, but you cannot count on
this alone. Accept the fact that you will have to take care of the pet. It is better
to use the brush daily, in order to avoid the formation of lumps.
Accordingly, you should not buy an animal for a child - such
a responsibility may be too great for him. If you are not ready to do it
yourself, it is better to buy a short-haired cat.
Trimming claws (once a week), brushing teeth (at least a
couple of times a week), ears and eyes are mandatory rituals that must be
performed strictly.
