Ojos Azules Cat
history/profile of Ojo Azules Cat
The breed of Ojos Azules cats has appeared naturally among
feral cats in New Mexico. We can say that this is the result of free
interbreeding, which gave rise to peculiar distinctive features. Up to this
day, the breed of Ojos Azules is rare. Now, none of the experts can say exactly
when this breed appeared, however, today it is rapidly gaining popularity in
America and even Europe.
The main characteristic is the deep blue color of the eyes.
As a matter of fact, in Spanish, the name of the breed is translated - blue
eyes. The first specimen was discovered in 1984, it was named Cornflower, which
means if translated verbatim - a flower of corn. It should be noted that the
eye color of such cats differs from other blue-eyed breeds, as it has a darker
and deeper shade. In addition, the gene responsible for this eye color is not
associated with any hair color - the first cat found Ojos Azules was turtle
color.
The short and long coat breed was accepted for TICA
registration in 1991. In 1992, only ten such cats were known worldwide. But the
official standards of the Ojos Azules breed group were approved by TICA on
January 5, 2004. Recent studies have shown that the blue eye gene in Ojos Azules can cause some cranial defects, and the breeding program has been
temporarily suspended.

personality
In fact, details about the identity of these cats are known
a little, as in the world there is only a couple of dozen. Cats breed Ojos Azules who have an affectionate and gentle character and are very human-oriented.
They are attached to each of the family members, building relationships. They
are quite active, love different games, and also like to spend time outdoors,
although they can be kept in the city apartment, provided good care and walks.
Their hunter instinct, borrowed from wild ancestors, requires the pursuit of
prey or games that this process simulates.
They like to climb trees, or just lie on the ground. Have
developed intelligence, well understand what is required of them, but do not
always come at the request of the owner the first time - sometimes the cat
feels the need for self-affirmation. But this is not absolute and does not
carry aggression. Children are treated normally, provided that the child knows
how to behave with animals.
Common diseases in Ojo Azules Cat
As mentioned above, recent studies have found the dependence
of skull defects on the blue eye gene (in this particular case, it is the breed
of Ojos Azules). Such skull defects, in the first place, can include
hydrocephalus. In other respects, no difficulties with health or genetic
abnormalities in the breed were not revealed. By the way, white Ojos Azules are
not prone to deafness like other white cats with blue eyes.
How to take care of Ojos Azules Cat?
Cats breed Ojos Azules can have both long and short hair.
Short should be combed once a week, and long - twice a week. Also, don't forget
to prune the claws every 10 days, clean your ears once or twice a week, and
remove sediment from your eyes if necessary.
