Mekong Bobtail Cat
History/Profile of Mekong bobtail
The Mekong bobtail has as long a history as Siamese
cats and its distinctive feature is a short, about 5 cm long, tail, a natural
gene mutation that was known to humans in ancient times. There are legends on
which Khmer princesses when they went swimming, dressed their jewelry on the short tail of these pets, as a kind of stand.
In 2003, after a long work to consolidate the main features
and distinctive features of the breed, it was officially registered by the
World Federation of Cats and was named - Mekong bobtail. However, the
development of the breed began in the nineties, when breeders paid attention to
individuals who were culled because of the effect of the tail and were not
allowed to exhibitions. This was done by Russian specialists, and the merit
rightfully belongs to them.
