History
Cat breed caracal - a real oriental beauty, wild and
affectionate at the same time, mysterious and extraordinarily spectacular.
Today, a large number of these animals live in wild conditions, say more -
animals of this breed living in wild conditions, much more than domesticated or
bred in captivity.
Caracal is an ancient breed known in the steppes and deserts
of Africa, the Middle East, Asia Minor, and Central Asia. Also, but to a lesser
extent, it is found in Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, in some areas of Uzbekistan,
in addition, about 100 wild individuals live in mountainous and steppe areas of
Dagestan (in this region their number is steadily declining).
The name " Caracal " comes from the Turkic phrase
"kara kylak", which means "black ear" - the back of the
ears and tassels on them are black. The black kayka is also available on the
inner edge of the ear. People know these animals for a long time - there is a
lot of evidence in the form of texts and images not only about the existence of
caracals in the wild but also about the joint hunting of people with these
animals.
Of course, at first, they had to be tamed - in this respect,
by the way, one of the most easily tamed big feral cats. They hunted birds,
antelopes, small game. In India, these animals have been called and called to
this day in some states of the country "cheetahs for the poor."
First, for the amazing speed that these cats are able to develop (but, run fast
and long they cannot), and secondly, because the real cheetah’s poor classes
shudra and chandals, from which usually occur hunters, could not afford.
Catching and taming a real cheetah is incredibly difficult,
and prices both now and in antiquity, correspond to the complexity of the task.
Joint hunting was common not only in India but also, in fact, wherever people
managed to tame the caracal. They are now listed in the Red Book as
"animals of the least fear," but there are still fears about their
disappearance.
At one time these big cats were considered a kind of lynx,
because of brushes on the ears and other similar traits, but then identified in
a separate genus. Moreover, it is one of the most expensive cats in the world.

Description
Some may think that having a home of a real predator of the
family of felines, though not the biggest, is dangerous. However, by and large,
this is not the case. Wild cat caracal, living at home, in fact, is not wild,
but very affectionate and open. And its majestic appearance and nobility of the
predator will cause admiration and delight.
Caracal - a cat, to put it mildly, large size - in withers
it reaches 45-50 cm in height, the length of the torso is about 80 cm, plus the
length of the tail is still 30 cm. The body is muscular, very proportional, the
paws are long, strong, with a short hard pile, which simplifies the movement on
the sand and rough terrain. The muzzle is a little elongated, wedge-shaped, the
eyes are large, very expressive, the ears are long, with black tassels at the
ends. The average life expectancy is more than 15 years.
Personality
In the wild, it is a ferocious and impregnable predator, a
perfect hunter, fast, inconspicuous, strong. However, at home, the caracal
turns into an affectionate friend and pet for each of the family members. Of
course, provided that you will educate him without beatings, with respect and
love.
These cats have a great memory and very developed
intelligence, they are ideally oriented on the ground, have, of course,
excellent hunting instincts, love to spend time outdoors. If you want to have a
caracal in a city apartment, remember that without walking he cannot.
By and large, Caracal behaves in the family like an ordinary
cat - loves attention, loves to spend time with people, is very attached to
them, loves affection, and gladly gives affection to others. On the other hand,
it is very territorial, and if you live in a private house with your own yard,
rest assured that stray dogs or cats, and even uninvited guests with bad
intentions will bypass your house tenth way. Although, you will need to take
care of the high fence so that your pet did not decide to expand their
possessions and did not go for a walk.
The breed of the caracal is friendly and open, gets along well
with other pets, except for rodents and birds. Children are treated perfectly,
but play with a caracal child should be careful, because when the cat gets
tired, it can show teeth, in addition, it is a very strong animal with large
claws. It is better if the child will play with him with toys.
In the apartment for him, it is better to take a separate
room, to build there a few ladders, shelves, put a claw and generally equip
this room so that the animal could jump and climb for fun.
Common diseases
Caracal is a healthy cat, which usually does not give the
owner special problems in this regard.
Care
The breed of caracal sheds, especially in the summer, and
therefore needs regular combing of wool. Usually, they are bought rarely, or in
case the cat is very dirty, for example, during a walk on the street, because
they hate water and given the size, weight, teeth, and claws of this animal, to
bathe it - the task is not easy.
Be sure to train your pet to sharpen the claws on the claw,
otherwise, the soft furniture will have to change every month. Do not forget to
brush your teeth 3 times a week, clean the eyes and ears of the animal from
sediment, and trim the claws every 10 days. Keep in mind that an adult caracal
will mark his territory, and it is extremely difficult to wean him from it.
