Canadian Sphinx
History/Profile of Canadian Hairless Cat
Like some other hairless breed of cats, the Canadian
sphinx arose as a result of chance - a genetic mutation. Once, a cat named
Elizabeth appeared as an unusual hairless kitten, which was named Prune. It
happened in Canada, in 1966. Owners interbred it with cats of different breeds,
however, the mechanism of the absence of wool to the end could not be fixed, as the
gene was recessive.
However, the success came with the birth of another bald
kitten in another state - he was born in Vidin, Minnesota, and got the name
Epidermis, quite directly indicating the main feature of the pet. He was
crossed with the same hairless cat from the nursery J. Stardust, which was a
real breakthrough. About 10 years have passed between the appearance of Prune
and Epidermis, and, we can say, they can be considered "fathers" of
the breed.
Another important event in the history of the breed - the
discovery of three bald cats in Toronto - Bambi, Pinky, and Paloma, in 1970.
Moreover, Bambi was a mother street cat, shabby in battles with other cats and
no longer able to breed. But Pinky and Paloma became the progenitors of the
European branch - they were sent to Holland.
However, the black and white handsome Bambi also became
famous - he became the first Canadian sphinx centenarian, delighting others
with his affectionate temper for 19 years. One of the most famous animals of
this breed is the cat of Austin Powers, Mr. Beagles' worth.

Description of Canadian Sphinx
The sphinxes are perhaps the most legendary of all hairless
breeds, which is due to the duration of its existence, and this, for a moment,
more than 50 years. The appearance of an alien guest in combination with a
beautiful, loving character - these are the main features of these animals.
The Canadian sphinx has giant, terribly sensitive
ears, an elongated body, and limbs. The muzzle is wedge-shaped, a bit on an
irregular basis formed, the eyes area unit giant and hypnotic. Despite the
dearth of wool, cats will have color. expectancy is a median of fifteen years.
The Personality of Canadian Sphinx
The breed of cat’s Canadian sphinx loves attention, and not
just attention - many sphinxes just have to be in the center of universal
admiration. And ready to do for this, if not all, then almost all. But this is
radically different from human ostentatiousness - the animal just likes to
contact people and receive human love and affection. By the way - if at an
early age does not limit his desire is on his hands, you will not rest. In
other words, these cute cats need a certain upbringing, although extremely
understanding.
The Canadian sphinx
is active, playful, and can try and participate in all told house chores. It is not recommended to leave one for a long time,
so when going on vacation it is better to take your pet with you. Even if you
leave it with friends, he will miss and year for you. The Canadian sphinx
treats children well and treats strangers normally.
The sphinxes are extremely dedicated to the owner and his
family in general. Sometimes they're a little playful, they like to fool
around. They are in many ways similar to children, in fact, may therefore well
find a common language with them. They are also always willing to make friends
with other pets, whether it's a cat or a dog.
Common
diseases in Canadian Sphinx
Breed Canadian sphinx has health problems, including - and
with the skin, although, here most often it all depends on the right care.
Hereditary diseases include:
urticarial pigment - skin disease;
hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is heart disease, as for
heredity in sphinxes there is a divergence of opinions, however, it is
impossible to deny that the breed is more likely than others to suffer from
this disease.
How to take care of Canadian Sphinx?
Wool in ordinary cats plays the role of a protective layer,
besides, wool absorbs sweat. Canadian sphinxes and other bald breeds of
cats there is no wool, which means that there is no protective layer.
Accordingly, all the pollution remains on the skin, especially when the cat is
sweating. It is necessary to constantly clean the skin with a damp cloth, and
make sure that there were no irritations on the skin.
In addition, remember all the standard cat procedures - brushing
teeth at least 3 times a week, cleaning the ears as needed (here you have to be
careful, as the Canadian sphinx ears are large and very sensitive), and prudish
claws. You need to bathe your pet at least once every 10 days.
