History/Profile of Canadian Sphinx Like some other hairless breed of cats, the Canadian sphinx arose as a result of chance - a genetic mutation. Once, a cat named Elizabeth appeared as an unusual hairless kitten, which was named Prune. It happened in Canada, in 1966. Owners interbred it with cats of different breeds, however, the mechanism of the absence of wool to the end could not be fixed, as the gene was recessive. However, the success came with the birth of another bald kitten in another state - he was born in Vidin, Minnesota, and got the name Epidermis, quite directly indicating the main feature of the pet. He was crossed with the same hairless cat from the nursery J. Stardust, which was a real breakthrough. About 10 years have passed between the appearance of Prune and Epidermis, and, we can say, they can be considered "fathers" of the breed. Another important event in the history of the breed - the discovery of three bald cats in Toronto - Bambi, Pinky, and Paloma, in 1970. Moreover, Bambi was a mother street cat, shabby in battles with other cats and no longer able to breed. But Pinky and Paloma became the progenitors of the European branch - they were sent to Holland. However, the black and white handsome Bambi also became famous - he became the first Canadian sphinx centenarian, delighting others with his affectionate temper for 19 years. One of the most famous animals of this breed is the cat of Austin Powers, Mr. Beagles' worth. How to take care of Canadian Sphinx? Wool in ordinary cats plays the role of a protective layer, besides, wool absorbs sweat. Canadian sphinxes and other bald breeds of cats there is no wool, which means that there is no protective layer. Accordingly, all the pollution remains on the skin, especially when the cat is sweating. It is necessary to constantly clean the skin with a damp cloth, and make sure that there were no irritations on the skin. In addition, remember all the standard cat procedures - brushing teeth at least 3 times a week, cleaning the ears as needed (here you have to be careful, as the Canadian sphinx ears are large and very sensitive), and prudish claws. You need to bathe your pet at least once every 10 days.
