Snowshoe Cat
History of Snowshoe cat
Snowshoe has deep roots, as it comes from Siamese cats.
In translation, the name of the breed is translated as "snow boots",
and looking at this pet it immediately becomes clear why it was named so. At
the end of the 19th century, Siamese cats with snow-white paws and the correct
pattern on the muzzle and chest were popular. However, the main thing is still
white paws.
Such cats were captured in photos and drawings of those years,
however, until the middle of the 20th century, special breeding programs did
not exist. The color of snow shu is especially important, as originally a
breeder named Dorothy Hinds-Dougherty wanted to breed medium-sized individuals
with white paws.
Dorothy drew up a primary breeding program that included
three Siamese cats. They were crossed with a short-haired domestic cat, which
had a black color, with a properly defined white belly and chest. That was in
the early '60s.
Subsequently, Dorothy herself stopped breeding any cats,
however, such interesting cats interested other breeders who continued what
they started. The case was a complete success, as we can see today, and the Snowshoe
breed was recognized by the Federation of Cat Lovers in 1982. The American Cat
Fanciers Association recognized the Snowshoe breed in 1990 and the
International Cat Association in 1994.
But the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) does not yet
recognize this breed. It should be noted that this organization is generally
extremely scrupulous about new breeds and recognizes them not as often as we
would like, although the official website indicates that the organization is
happy and open to new breeds.

How Description of Snowshoe cat?
Are Snowshoe cats good pets?
In addition to its white paws, the Snowshoe breed is known
for a very beautiful uniform V-shaped marking on the muzzle and chest, however,
it does not manifest itself in all individuals. Show cats have this marking, as
well as white "boots", while others may have a spotted color, or uneven
marking, although they are born white.
These animals are medium-sized, weighing about 4 kg. They
have a muscular body, perfectly built, a muzzle of a classic shape, ears of
medium length. Their activity can be expressed in different ways, depending on
the place of residence. If he lives in an apartment, this is one thing, but if
the pet lives in a private house and has a permanent admission to the street,
his hunting instincts will manifest themselves.
How's the Personality of Snowshoe cat?
Snowshoe cats are able to surprise, thanks to the
versatility of their personality. This seems unlikely when it comes to cats,
however, this breed does have developed intelligence and depth of character.
This can manifest itself as follows - in some cases, the cat may behave like a
good friend, able to understand and share a difficult state of mind. At other
times, your pet will appear in the role of a playful kitten, active and
carefree. We can say that these animals have a real "cat's heart".
This is especially evident in attitudes towards family members. They like to
respond to words with their voices.
Cats choose one person as the most beloved and
authoritative, however, in relation to the whole family they show great
sincerity and warmth. On the other hand, sometimes they can show capricious
traits. They treat children well, love to play, show great independence and
activity, easily find an interesting occupation without your help.
Although, they will gladly play with family members. Snowshoe cats are very
intelligent, can open doors and even simple latches. By the way, these animals
normally perceive water, unlike many other cat breeds.
what are common diseases in Snowshoe cats?
In general, the Snowshoe breed is a healthy cat, but some
individuals may exhibit a breakpoint on the tail, as well as strabismus.
However, such phenomena are rare, and in other respects, it is a healthy strong
pet.
How to take care of a Snowshoe cat?
The coat of the snow-shu cat needs constant care, which
consists of careful combing with a brush. This should be done about once a
week. In addition, be sure to monitor the cleanliness of the ears, do not
forget to brush your teeth - it is better to do it every day, but you can do it
three to four times a week, and also trim the claws in time. The animal needs
to provide a balanced diet of high-quality components, which will significantly
extend its life span and favorably affect its health.
