Serengeti Cat
History of Serengeti Cat
The Serengeti is a relatively new and rare breed of cat and first appeared in the nineties. It was developed by Karen South man - a
breeder, conservation specialist, and biologist. The main idea was to create a
breed that would combine the best qualities of domestic cats - kindness,
intelligence, love for people while having the appearance of a wild African
serval cat.
There is a pattern here - surely it crossed servals with
European or American shorthair, but it is not. Serengeti has no serval
blood at all. The Serengeti cat breed originated from crossing Bengal and
Eastern Shorthairs. Just a few years later, the Serengeti cat began to gain
popularity, and other breeders around the world also joined the breeding
program. The breed is registered with TICA as new, but the GCCF has not yet
recognized it.
