German Rex Cat
history / What cats
are from Germany?
The breed of cats German rex has a rather long history,
which began in the 1930s. Few people know, but this is the first breed of cats
with curly hair. German farmer Erna Schneider in modern Kaliningrad (once this
city belonged to Germany and was called otherwise - Koenigsberg) had a cat that
brought kittens.
Among these kittens were two with unusual, curly hair, a boy
and a girl. The boy was castrated quite early, but the girl spread the curly
wool gene widely until she died around the beginning of the 40s. Her name was
Cater Munch. It is said to have originated from mating Angora cat and Russian
blue cat.
Despite the fact that Kate Munch, in fact, became the
ancestor of the breed of German Rex, many modern researchers and experts for
some reason do not recognize it as such. They take 1951 when in the hospital
of Berlin-Buch is one of the districts of Berlin, Pankove, doctor Rose
Scheuer-Carpin saw a cat with curly hair in the yard. The cleaner said she had
seen the pet regularly since 1947.
The doctor took the animal to her home and called it
Lachen, which means lamb. Subsequently, this cat gave several offspring, many
of which were sold abroad. The kittens that had cruised from her Cornish
Rex European short-haired and other mixed breeds. CFA (Cat Lovers Association)
links this breed with Cornish Rex, and TIFF (International Cat Fund) recognizes
German Rex is a separate breed.
