Peterbald
History of Peterbald cat
The Peterbald is a relatively new breed, which, we can say,
was born only in 1994. It is descended from the crossing of the Don Sphynx (a
male named Athengen Myth) and an Oriental Shorthair (a female named Radma Vom
Jagerhof).
A breed descended from such non-standard parents as don
sphinx and oriental cat, exceeded the expectations of breeders. The
breeding program was also involved in the breeding program. Russian blue and siamese
cats. Despite the fact that the St. Petersburg Sphynx is considered a hairless
cat, and really has almost perfectly smooth skin, there are also individuals
whose coat resembles velour or something like that. There are several options
for a non-standard texture of the coat, which is due to the presence of cats
with hair in the breeding program.
The International Cat Association (TICA) gave the Peterbalds
the status of the Championship in 2006.

Description
The Peterbald cat breed is a cute and affectionate creature
with a very unusual appearance. They will become a good friend for the whole
family, including children. Sometimes it may seem that they find their own
approach to each person individually, largely due to their affectionate nature
and intelligence. And greater flexibility in expressing your emotions through
facial expressions and voice adds even more to the charm.
The St. Petersburg Sphynx breed has medium-large sizes,
weight can reach 4.5-7 kg in males and 3.5-5.5 kg in females. The ears are
large, with rounded tips, the muzzle is wedge-shaped. The legs are of medium
length, the physique is thin, the chest protrudes slightly forward. The average
life expectancy is about 13-15 years.
Personality
First of all, we can say that the St. Petersburg Sphynx
breed is a very inquisitive and quick-witted cat. They are cheerful and active,
love various games, and generally like to spend time with people. They are very
pleased with human warmth, attention, and care, they partly need these things
and may even experience mental suffering if they do not receive returns from
loved ones. After all, the St. Petersburg sphinxes themselves are very
affectionate and loving.
Despite their innate high energy levels, activity, and
playfulness, they are rarely harmful and sometimes love peace. Perhaps their
character is positive in all respects, but everyone can raise their pet not
quite correctly, growing in him some negative qualities, so to speak, in his
own image and likeness.
Due to the developed intelligence, Peterbald quickly
understands what the owner wants from him, and will not go against the grain
just for the sake of his own self-affirmation. Often expresses emotions through
voice and purring.
These cats treat children well, strangers are perceived
rather positively and can get along with almost any pet if they do not receive
unreasonable aggression and negativity. But, in this case, Peterbald can be
unexpectedly bold and fearless - be sure to consider this point. Changing
places for the St. Petersburg Sphinx can be difficult, and the adaptation
process can last for some time.
Common diseases in Peterbald
Due to the novelty of the breed and the small number of
individuals, there is no deep, reliable research on this issue. However, to
date, it cannot be said that Peterbald has any serious health problems or a
predisposition to genetic diseases.
How to take care of Peterbald?
Since there is no wool, there is no need to comb it, which
greatly simplifies care. But, these unusual cats need more frequent nutrition,
as they have an accelerated metabolism. In addition, periodically you need to
wipe their skin with a damp cloth, especially in places of folds.
Do not forget about the standard cat hygiene procedures -
brushing your teeth at least 3 times a week, trimming your claws every 10 days,
cleaning your eyes and ears. With the ears, you need to be especially careful,
as they are very sensitive.
