To date, it is not known exactly how and when the breed of cats "Sacred Burmese cat" was formed. However, one thing can be said with absolute certainty - it is a very ancient animal, which is revered in his homeland up to the present day. Traditionally, they are considered temple cats, sacred animals to which the Gods have shown their favor.
According to legend, the Gods awarded the cat with blue eyes golden wool color and white paws to emphasize its purity. This was bestowed for his devotion to the clergyman in the temple. In addition, the animal received a gift bonus to intelligence and inner purity. At least that's what legends say.
In addition, it is believed that some monks clergy may be reborn as cats in future life. Skeptics, on the contrary, argue that monks and clergy practice all their lives not to be reborn as a cat, but quite the contrary to never incarnate into an animal and even into a human being, but to be reborn in the world of gods.
In the west, the breed became known in 1919, when the Frenchman Auguste Pavi and the Englishman Gordon Russell received a gift of several cats of this breed, for the help of temple clergy.
Interesting fact - the Europeans were given a male and a female, but only a female got to France, as the cat died on the way. It was great luck that he managed to fertilize his companion, and it was from her litter that developed the whole breed of sacred Burma. By the way, this name is preserved from 1925 (the year of recognition of the breed in France) to the present day.
Cats entered the U.S. in 1959 and were recognized by the Cat Lovers Association in 1967. Today they are recognized by the American Cat Association, the International Cat Association, the Canadian Cat Association, and the Cat Lovers Federation.

A cheerful, intelligent animal, as if descended from the pages of ancient texts in the depths of Asia - it is undoubtedly a sacred Burma. This breed is revered as a sacred animal for many centuries, but despite this, it feels great at home, as it has beautiful features of "cat personality" - kindness, empathy, intelligence, and playful nature. Both adults and children will find funny and interesting companions in these pets. The Burmese cat is medium in size and usually weighs in the area of 3-4 kg. Life expectancy is 12-15 years.
Burmese Cat Personality
The Burmese cat is very human-oriented and feels a great affection for his family members and the owner, which, first of all, is manifested in behavior. The cat just likes to be near a loved one, regardless of his activity at the moment. In other words, if you have a place to rest, eat, work, talk on the phone - it does not matter. Your pet, in any case, will try to be, if not in your arms, then just next to you, in the same room.
On the other hand, the Burmese cat likes to sit on her hands, loves to be stroked, and shows reciprocal love and affection towards her family. These animals have a soft, compliant character, they do not create problems, and are usually obedient to their owners. At the same time, they in any case cannot be called stupid - the intelligence of Burmese cats is very developed, they constantly monitor the situation, people, draw their own conclusions and perfectly understand the situation in the house.
The sacred Burmese cat loves children, in part because it is possible to play with them, as this breed is high energy and playfulness, even in adulthood. Strangers are treated normally, with other pets always try to make friends, if not meet an aggressive relationship.
Burmese Cat Common Diseases
Despite the fact that the Burmese cat is widely considered an aboriginal breed, it is prone to genetic diseases. This applies not only to physical health but also to neuralgic abnormalities. in particular:
- congenital hypotrichosis, which leads to the birth of bald kittens
- with thymus aplasia (this is extremely rare)
- corneal dermoid, the presence of skin and hair on the surface of the cornea. This can be surgically corrected
- spongy degeneration
- unusually high concentrations of urea and/or creatinine in the blood, which may indicate renal dysfunction
- a tremor in kittens. This condition begins in some kittens when they are about 10 days old, and lasts up to 12 weeks. The cause is unknown, not studied, and recovery occurs spontaneously.
Care of Burmese Cat
The fur of these cats cannot be called short, but it is also not called long. Rather, it is of medium length, and needs, at least, weekly careful combing and removal of lumps - it should be done carefully. In addition, be sure to brush your teeth at least 3 times a week, bathe the cat is necessary at least once every two months, once every 10 days to prune the claws, and make sure that the ears and eyes were always clean.
